hey all,

I have an Abit KD7a motherboard that supports 400 DDR ram and a front side
bus of 333. I currently have and AMD 3000+ (333) on it with 1 gig of pc3200
running at (201x2) and all is well. I see a decent price on the AMD 3000
(400) chip. I doubt I would make any major jump if I was to use the 400 fsb
version. But, I can take my current chip and put it into my other pc that
currently has an AMD 2000+ (266). But that all depends on the ability of my
motherboard running the newer chip. This would be the last upgrade for both
pc's and only run me about 100$. That will do until I move into the 64 bit
systems.

My motherboard has pretty flexible settings for all fsb, vcore, etc.... Will
that chip work on a slower fsb?

thanks,
SL

Your rig would probably perform even better if you ran the ram at 166x2
instead of 201x2.
Synchronous operation is most effective latencywise.
If your chip is unlocked (as my 3000+(333), from factory), you can instead
turn down multi and up FSB to 200.

It's easy to find out, have you checked? Which mobo is it?

Here is a link at Abit.

I am pretty sure that my board could be manually set to the required
settings for the chip. I guess Im looking for verification that it can be
done. My original owners manual only had the requirements up to, but not
past the 3000+ range.

thanks for the input. :)

Abit KD7a Rev.1

I thought the link should of have been fine. Oh well.

The KT400A chipset does not officially support the 400MHz FSB CPU, but there
is always a chance it will work nevertheless.

Or is the KD7A your old mobo and you want to run the XP3000+(333) on it,
then it will probably work just fine even though XP2600+ (Barton) is the
highest listed. The difference is almost not there, and note that the chart
does not mention "SEmprons", even if latest BIOS adds support for them.

Your corret in that I do currently have an XP3000 (333) running on it. I
have another older motherboard that can support the same chip. So I was
gonna take the chip out of the KD7a and put it on that board (PcChips) and
it will be "maxed" out. That leaves me with the KD7a and the possibility of
putting in a faster chip. That is where Im at now.
