Hi everyone,

Let me get the specifications of my PC out of the way:

ryzen 5600x
rm1000w psu
32gb 3600 ram
msi gaming plus b550
msi trio 4090
LG 144hz 4k monitor and alienware QD OLED 3440x1440p monitor.

Here is the issue. Comparing my benchmarks to others with the same exact settings in both 4k and 1440p, i have been getting frames significantly lower than similarly specced machines with 4090.

for instance, i received 75.65 avg fps in cyberpunk at 2560x1440p while another person received 107 and the only other difference i can see in our systems is that he has a ryzen 7 vs my ryzen 5. he actually has an 850w psu while i have a 1000w. but during his benchmark, he was pulling 100+ watts than i was during my benchmark.

I have doubts that its just the processor difference between the 5 and 7 and i feel like the wattage might have to do with it.

my GPU usage was also 15-20% less than his as well.

anyone have any thoughts on this? How do i get my GPU usage higher and take more wattage?

thank you.

PS: i also have an i9 9900k system with similar specs that performed about the same or worse with the 4090. so more reason why i think its not the CPU but i could be wrong.

yes youre wrong, low gpu usage means its waiting for cpu....and cyberpunk is kinda cpu heavy game....it eats 8 core cpu like nothing

Alright, so i plan on building a new PC once the 13th gen comes out to see if i should go intel or AMD. Based on what you said, once i upgrade the CPU, i should start seeing higher gpu usage in these types of games?

YES , with a higher performing CPU.

There are driver issues right now for the 4090 for some users. Hes also playing at 3440x1440p so hes not extremely CPU limited. This is kind of normal for brand-new GPU launches. Prob will see drivers for MW2 with some fixes (copium I guess). Already plenty of posts on the nvidia subreddit saying the same things. Doesnt matter if they have a 7000 series ryzen or a 10th gen processor. Its also not the same for every 4090 owner but many are saying their GPU usage is extremely low (40-50%) and they are getting the same performance as their 30 series. Thats kind of what happened to me. My fps in a lot of games is the same but my power and gpu usage is far lower. These games arent even using my CPU (12900k OC'd) that much. Just low usage on everything. Whats weird is I have certain games that run perfect (RE village I get like double the framerate lol).

Also have had some weird stability issues in some games with crashes.

Hello, i am back with the build completed and HOLY HELL THIS THING IS FAST!!!!

Upgrading to the 13900k 5600mhz ram with the 4090 IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED to solve this.

100% cpu bottleneck.

Just a quick example, i was getting 112 fps 9900k 3000mhz 4090 at 3440x1440.

now i am getting 180 fps with the 13900k 5600mhz 4090 at the same resolution. NO DLSS. with DLSS i get 228FPS!!

This is insane gains and cant wait to test in 4k as well.

thanks everyone
