I usually field a chaos lord with daemonic flight and daemonic
stature. Slap a Dread Axe on him and he is totally murder in
close combat. As a lord should be

Smaller squads. Lose the bolters. The standard CM setup of bolt
pistol and cc weapon is a sure win. Also, cut down on all the
extra gadgets, your combiflamer will be of much more use in an
assault squad.

Again, a smaller squad of below 10 guys. And since this is a cc
squad... stick them in a rhino.

I love raptors. Though the lightning claws let you reroll when
wounding... so you could probably save daemonic strength. With
strength four (five on a charge) and a reroll you are hardly
gonna have trouble wounding anything shourt of monstrous
creatures. And they are not the things you generally want
expensive guys like raports fighting.

An awfully big point sink. Everyone and his little brother loves
reaper autocannons! Keep those. Lose some of the power fists and
combi meltas and use the points to add an Obliterator or two.
Those guys rock and gives the opponent another large threat to
focus on.

Yes, and yes.

Bolt pistols and cc weapon! Always keep this. And I think heavy
bolters and tank hunter go poorly together. With tank hunter you
are better of taking a weapon that might actually hurt a tank. An
Autocannong, Missile Launcer or the like.

Personally I try to avoid mixing heavy weapons in my havoc
squads. with tank hunter, not much beats your basic autocannon.
You have large amounts of shots and unless your target has armor
of 13 and 14 you are better of with two autocannon shots than one
missile launcer shot. A good, solid havoc squad is 5 man, 4
autocannons and the tank hunter skill. They have enough shots
that you can feel good about shooting at infantry, and they are
murder to anything short of a Land Raider. If you are afraid of
being assaulted add another guy or two and give the champ a
powerfist. Then they will be able to hold their own against any
but the most dedicated assault troops.

You have a lot of the right ideas, and I think you will do well.
Lots of my comments are more flavor and preference than anything.
I generally try to keep squads, characters and vehicles
specialised. Like your predator. Specialize your tactical squads
a bit more, and certainly add a few rhinos. At 50 points a rhino
is a steal. It can provide much needed speed or equally needed
cover.
Also, a 6-8 man group of standard chaos marines with pistols and
cc weapon are very effective (not to mention cheap) and can
intercept anyone trying to get to grips with your havocs.
I try to keep the upgrades, gifts and special weapons down to a
minimum. They are effective when used right, but they cost a lot
of points. A standard chaos marine is 14 points, I honostly
believe that is the best 14 points you can ever spend. By shaving
off some special weapons and some daemonic gifts you could easily
get enough extra points to get a 6 man marine squad with a
lascannon (thats only 99 points). Thats a very solid squad for
adding some quite serious anti tank firepower.
Trust your basic marines. They get the job done.

Lars
