I saw ocne, eitehr in WD or in the citadel journal i think, a small and bad
photo of a guy who had made a miniature battlefield so he could play 40k
with epic miniatures. it was sort of like a little travel game. Im wondering
if anyone know where this was and if the article was any good. It msut be a
good 5 years or more since I saw it.

Has anyone tried anythign like this. Living in a smallish flat i barely have
room to keep and paint models, let alone keep a full sized table, so i dont
play very often (when i go back home...which is perhaps 2 weeks a year).
This kinda appeals to me as a relatively cheap to try project and im curious
if anyone else has. replacing inches with say 5mm would make most of the
measuring for anything a lot easier.

hope someone has some input
cheers
Adam

While I can't point you to a specific article off the top of my
head, I've heard a number of folks mention stuff along these lines
before. You might even be able to find old posts about it here on RGMW
by doing a 'google groups advanced search' for the words 'Traveling
40K' which is what folks have called such 'mini' 40K sets. The main
idea behind them at the time IIRC was so that folks could literally take
them on the road and game while on long trips. Typically those who've
talked about doing this have said they used a small board with magnetic
sheeting (you can find sheet magnets at some hardware/DYI type stores)
and then used Epic scale minis with a bit of sheet metal on the base to
attach them to the 'battlefield'. Making terrain is fairly simple as
well since one can either use more sheet magnet or some sheet metal on
the bottom to stick it to the battle field. If you made 'multi-story'
ruins, you'd just have to make sure the floors had sheet metal or sheet
magnet as well.

Hope that helps,

Myrmidon

#1582. I think they call it Warhammer "40K" because that is how
much you are going to have to make per year in order to play.

# 1082. Pound for pound I can buy cocaine cheaper than
raise a Warhammer army

I am just in the throes of doing this for an article in Wargames
Journal........

I'll post more details as I get them done, although with a bit of thought
you can make a set that fits into a folding chess set and you can buy 5mm
dice and mini tape measures at most wargames shows.

A RGMW poster in the mid to late 90's described his set of "Travel Space
Hulk".
Miniaturised hulk layout pieces, Epic Terminators & 'stealers & a bunch of
magnetised stuff to keep everybody stuck down.
