I am starting to create my minor-divergent Chapter of Ultramarines, and have
a question concerning invulnerable saves. One of the traits I want to take
gives the SMs a 6+Inv save. I've looked at the explanation of this rule in
the main rulebook, but am still confused as to how it works. Could one of
you nice folks explain to me how this works in "Village Idiot" terms?

hmm. rulebook wording seems pretty simple to me. basically an invulnerable
save works the same as an armor save, only it ignores AP values and weapons
which cancel armor saves entirely. in effect you always get the
invulnerable save against any damage. hence "invulnerable." (of course
these days there are a few weapons and attacks which themselves ignore
invulnerable saves, mostly special inquisitorial weapons and psychic powers,
but they're exceptions). sometimes a model can get an armor save AND an
invulnerable save, in which case you can use whichever one is better - the
advantage of the invulnerable save is that it can still be used against
damage which cancels the armor save - but you can't make two save rolls
against the same damage.
