Hi im trying to run a Gigabyte AMD radeon R9 380 with a 430 powersupply unit with 80 plus on the sticker itself Will my Power supply overlaod? will graphics card be damaged? Will my motherboard support a new power supply unit? one guy from cyber power said it'd be okay i just dont remember exactly what he said when i had to mess with a black metal sheet psu connector. heres my system specs , comments appreciated. btw, my specs aren't that great. From just the raw specs, that power supply is fine. When a manufacturer recommends a PSU wattage, they're assuming you're using a no-name, low-efficiency unit.

What exact model is your EVGA unit? Some of their low-end power supplies are good, and some are bad. And what do you mean by "black metal sheet PSU connector"?

i meant i have a n EVGA 430w psu with an 80 plus effciency with an 80 ping power connector to the graphics card, im thinking i might be able to get more effciency with the 8 pin vs the 6 pin

Sure! And you should definitely use the 8-pin connector if your card has an 8-pin input. If your PSU only has 6-pin PCIe, you can use an adapter. That adapter should come with your GPU, but you can buy one if it doesn't.

The extra 2 pins have various functions depending on the PSU model. Some are fine, some need 8. The worst that can happen is an error message on boot, so if you're already running it with 6, you're golden.
