4400 Question

If I set my 4400 to analog only, does it use more power in the standby mode?
I can't see why it should, since it's not transmitting.

It uses a lot more power that way because the receiver is on all of the time
in analog mode.

Yes it does. You'll only get about 12 hours of standby in analog mode.

And, yes, it IS transmitting the "hello cell site, I'm here" signal

I have been thinking of switching to analog mode because I have watched my phone pick up a good
analog signal, and the switch over to digital with a significant loss in signal.

In the location where I'm having a house built the phone keeps bouncing back
& forth between digital & analog all day long as I move throughout the rooms
doing some work. Once I'm in the house I'll position a "CellSocket" unit in
the best location & I won't have the problem. I left it on analog all day
today & the battery shows it.

Try it in CDMA (digital only). It might stay on the digital signal if there
is no analog signal for it to switch to.

The 4400 tends to favor (in automatic mode) a very strong analog
signal over a "weaker" digital signal. I've seen this happen
countless times...

But the "weaker" signal - even if it's as low as one bar on the
display - may be more than enough for a decent digital call. I'd
definitely try CDMA Only inside the house and see where it gets you.

It's a unit which allows connection to the house wiring thus eliminating a
land line. You can position the cell phone in the best reception location &
have as many house phones as you want, all feeding back to the main cell
phone.

The "Dock-N-Talk" system has promised a unit for the 4400 sometime around
Sept. I'm no sure if the CellSocket can be far behind. Luckily I don't
need it until then.

I'm new with this phone. Can you please tell me how to get it to CDMA ONLY mode?

I'd say this is only likely to be true during low usage times, when the
noise floor will be lower.

In the CDMA mode at least it doesn't keep changing back & forth all day &
the battery does last a lot longer. I've always got the analog mode
available if I need it.
