Hello friends,
I was thinking about upgrading my PC:
CPU: Ryzen 1600 AF
MOBO: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
GPU: RX 570 4GB
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) Kingston @ 3000Mhz
PSU: Super Flower 550W Gold

Approximate Purchase Date: 1-2 months
Budget Range: 400-500€
System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming (all type of games), surfing the internet, watching movies & tv series.
Parts to Upgrade:
  • new AMD Ryzen CPU compatible with MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX (AM4 socket)
  • new GPU that works good on PCIe 3.0 (my motherboard doesn't have PCIe 4.0 support)
  • another 16 GB RAM (2x8GB kit) if it's needed?
Location: Europe
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: amazon.de or local store
Overclocking: Yes if needed.
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 @ 60Hz. My monitor doesn't have GSYNC/FreeSync.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: not enough fps in AC Origins/Odyssey, Deathloop, RAGE2 etc.

My ideas & doubts:
- CPU:
AMD Ryzen compatible with my motherboard. I was thinking about Ryzen 5500 since it's pretty cheap in my country - 99€. I don't know if it's worth to pay 45€ more for Ryzen 5600 for gaming in 1920x1080 resolution?
- GPU: I was thinking about RX6600, RX6600XT, RX6650XT, RTX 3060 12GB. I want good value & decent performance in 1920x1080. I'm not a "hardcore gamer". I don't have to play with all setting maxed out.
I was thinking about RX6600 since it has best cost per frame value and I can get it for 260€ on sale in my local store. On the other hand RX6650XT/RTX306012GB has better performance and I can grab it for 355€ on sale. What do you think guys?
- RAM: I can buy the same Kingston 2x8GB kit for 40€ but I don't know if it helps much? I've heard that 16GB RAM is enough nowadays.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't settle for anything bellow R5 5600(x). 5500 is just a crippled version.
For that resolution and frequency CPU is the "Boss", That would be biiig boost over 1600.

Rx 6600 doesn't lose much at PCIe gen 3 but XT models lose some more although I don't think price difference reflects it, 6650xt even less so.
RTX 3060 is in same ballpark but probably more expensive.
Ram you have enough but unless you get 3600MHz difference is negligible.

CPU: Would as well go 5600, especially at lower resolutions will the cpu have to work harder. Yes 1080p isn't that low, but i think the 5600 is the winner here.

GPU: the 6600 is a nice card, what can i say, for true performance differences check some reviews.

RAM: i wouldn't mind the extra ram, but if you're only gaming and don't have alot open next to it like lots of browser tabs and tools and discord is 16gb still fine. Problem sometimes is that adding ram might give problems even when exactly the same. You might just be lucky and it wil just work, but it also might become a crapshoot.

A vid about cpu choice, both are in there,

I was told that I don't need Ryzen 5600 if I'm not planning to buy "high tier" GPU like RTX3070/RX6700XT. I've heard that Ryzen 3600 is enough if I want to stick with RX6600 (but there's only 5€ difference between 3600 and 5500 in my country so I'd rather buy Ryzen 5500).
Do you think it's worth to pay 45€ more for Ryzen 5600?

Look it's up to you, only you can decide what thing are worth it in the end. If you only have the budget for the 5500 take that. We only can give advice and point in a direction, only you can decide what to get by what you can/will spend and there is no shame in that. 😉
