46 in sharp tv hdmi input not duplicating with win 8

While I can extend the desktop to the tv it will not duplicate the desktop on the tv. What do I need to do. Worked ok with windows xp, but not with my asus allinone windows 8 unit

did you go into Display properties and deselect "extend desktop to this monitor"?
