4650 1GB GDDR2 vs 4670 512MB GDDR3

I'm trying to get into some of the newer games, I have a nice monitor and I'm having to run low resolutions.

Current System
Athlon 64 X2 3800+ w/1GB
GeForce 6600GT
nForce4 MB

Whats better

4650 w/1GB of GDDR2 for $55 or
4670 w/512GB of GDDR3 for $61 or

something else in that price range.

The 4670 is the better card. Faster memory and faster gpu.

Well in that price range, your still gonna be running low resolutions.

It will be better then what you got but not able to play "newer games" at high resolutions.

Save up to get a 4830, 4850, 4870, 9800GT, gtx 260.

Might even look at a 9600gt, it's about a step in between the 4830 and 4670. Give you a little more flexibility.

roadrunner: thax for the suggestion but my families budget wont allow for saving for video cards we have much bigger fish to fry. This will be the max I can spend. Plus I want to play the games I got for Xmas now. Don't you think the 4670 will be way better than my 6600GT

ohiou_grad: so you think springing $10 or $15 more for a 9600GT will make an appriciable difference. I want it to be worth it since I have to sell it to the wife and about $60 is much better than about $80 when I'm supposed to spend $50.

Buy the 4670 even if its borrowing money. The faster ram doesn just allow you for higher resolutions but for better AA aswell it'll fit in your pci-e slot without having to break the bank for a psu upgrade.

right on, one-shot. Bought it! I used to be able to spend $200-$300 on a graphics card but times have changed. I think I'll be pretty happy with my modest investment and should be able to game through the year and who knows what next year has in store!

Synergymus, can't say I blame you, honestly, I looked at the 4670 myself, but for Christmas, I got a new PSU, and found the 9600gt for 85 with free shipping. If still using the same PSU I had, 4670 is probably where I would have put my money as well. I was fortunate and found a good deal on the 9600. Let us know how that 4670 performs though, as that card is supposed to be pretty good for what it is.

I can understand about upgrading by the way dude. I've been gaming this year on a 7300LE. Just in the end of 07 I got away from my old Athlon XP with AGP slot and IDE drives. So last year I got the dual core chip and new hard drive and case, this year I can get the video taken care of. But the nice thing is things are going down, this is the perfect time to upgrade. The nicer thing is, even budget upgrades are pretty good now.

I'm going to refrain from debasing myself to your level and start name calling, but I must ask why are you calling me an idiot I bought the 4670 and I love it. I can play the games I wanted to at fairly good levels. Not maxed out but with my 6600GT I was getting like 10fps on COD5. So, how am I an idiot. I think it was a great buy. For someone on a tight budget that just want to upgrade to play the newer games it is a great card!!!

the one below it is 4650 1gb ddr2 at Rs 4700 . what do you think?
and i cannot spare more money for any other card .

YES YOU DO REALLY... REALLY... REALLY... REALLY need to upgrade your PSU. As for a video card the 4670 is nothing less of an AWESOME buy (for its price range). I have had NO REGRETS with this card! It is the most cost effective video card that I have ever bought. Now all I have to do is wait another year or so for ATI to release a video card of this value with their 5xxx series and I will MOST definitely get it!

I am also considering the 4670 but I have a 350W PSU, would that be enough?
My processor: core duo 6400.
2 HD @ 7200 rpm.

HD4670 is a good choice... If i were to select... i won't go for it.. i would save little more money for HD4770..

Take 1GB version only if you are getting a display with high resolution..

A 350w should be ok for an HD4670. It would depend on the brand/model to tell if it could handle an HD4770.
