4670k or 4770k need help for upgrading!

Hi all, about to upgrade my computer and need some advice on cpus/motherboards and memory.

I've been doing a lot of reading and just end up going in circles. Any advice people can give would be greatly appreciated!

My computer use is just gaming. I dont do music/video editing or anything like that. I maybe would like to get FRAPs one day but that would be about it.

The whole upgrade is to get ready for BF4 which will prob take up all my gaming time, otherwise it will be Dayz, titanfall ect...

At this stage I don't oc, however, I am not against it just dont know much about it (if someone could point me in the right direction on that I would appreciate it as well!)

Anyway I have listed my thoughts below:

CPU: 4670k or 4770k - My reading leads me to believe that 4770k isn't worth the extra money for what I would need, however, happy to pay for it if it will 'future proof' my system. Also is the stock fan suitable or should I upgrade, if so what.

Motherboard: I like the look of the MSI Z87-G45 Gaming but will take any advice. With regards to motherboards I would like something with great built in sound card, however, open to advice to buying a separate sound card, if so which.

Mem: Which is the best to get the most out of my gaming. IE How much do I need and does it complement the motherboard. I currently have 16 gig of Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX, can I use this or should I upgrade?

At this stage I will be using my 2x6970 but will looking to upgrade when the new AMD get released.

The rest of my kit I will use is as follows:

CoolerMaster HAF 912 Advanced
CoolerMaster Silent Pro Gold 1200W
OCZ Vertex 2 3.5" 120GB E Series SSD
Hitachi Deskstar 7K2000 2TB 7200RPM
Samsung SH-B123A 12X Blu-ray DVD Combo Drive

While money is not an issue, I don't want to buy the most expensive stuff because it cost the most. I just want to get the best stuff to get the most out of my gaming experience.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! If the advice could include your thought process that would make like a lot easier to help me make the right decision.

I use the i5 4670k with two gtx 770's in sli no bottlenecks at all. From what I read you only would have a 2-5 fps increase with the i7, so for the price for pure gaming performance the i5 is the best, now doing other stuff that is more cpu multi core intensive then yah, Also you can overclock the i5 to 4.6 at a fairly safe temp with air cooling

For pure gaming, just get the 4670k. Difference between i5 vs i7 is minimal in most games (i7's mainly benefit from content creation, etc). A bit of advice, you can never have too much SSD space. Personally, I'd go for a 4670k + 256GB SSD over a 4770k + 128GB SSD, especially for large games like BF4.

1200watts? Too much. 850 watt is enuf. And the brand is Important. I would go Corsair AX, Seasonic or XFX. They are the best PSU in the market (Seasonic made Corsair AX PSU and XFX.)

I5 vs i7 is differentiable. But i would go for i7 because it has more use than i5 if youre just gaming then i5 will be the best.

On the mobo. I think Asus Maximus VI hero or Gigabyte Z87 UD4H have or Asrock Extreme 6 have better features than that MSI. Just check where suits you the best.

Not really some gigabyte boards have problems with evga video cards because of the bio's but I have the same motherboard that you listed no problems with any brand of video cards

TBH, I find even onboard Realtek chips these days are good enough. The board you picked out seems fine (7.1-Channel High Definition Audio + both coax & optical digital outs).

No. You can easily use an Asus card on an MSI board & vice-versa. For that fact, you can easily use an AMD card on an Intel board & Nvidia card on an AMD board with virtually no issues.

cool, i know you mentioned getting a couple of 770's but I think im going to stick with the AMD as I believe that BF4 (frostbite 3) is optimized for their cards. That being said is their any brand cards (evga, asus, ect..) should I keep clear of?

AMD 9000 Series gives free copies of BF4 (based on the leaked pictures i saw regarding the upcoming gpus). I think maybe the highend gpus will get the free copies. Not sure though. Check google. :lol:

I don't mind spending the money if I am going to get benefit out of it with my gaming

No benefits going 32 gigs. The stock fan is ok. But if youre overclocking in the future. Go buy an aftermarket cooler. Like a h100i or seidon 240m on AIO cooler. Or just a hyper 212 evo

Moist! Thanks for the advice, looks like I have a plan of action. The upgrade is going to be a lot cheaper than I thought, hopefully the new AMD's aren't too pricey either.
