I reinstalled thermal paste on another machine of mine, and I thought what the heck, while I'm at it, I'll just reinstall it on my main machine, a 3.5 year old that I haven't changed it on yet. I reapplied thermal paste, changed out for a higher CFM fan, & booted up prime95 to see if my temps changed. My idle temps are great-- 30C. However, when I booted up prime95, my temps went up into the mid 80C's. Before it was a healthy 75Cish. The only time it has ever went up past that is when I tried to overclock to 4.2 ghz and it went up to 90C, in which I quickly went back to stock 3.8GHz Turbo clocks. I was looking into possibly undervolting it, now that my load temps are so high, and the stock voltage is 1.7V! I hear that people with this chip only go up to 1.7 for 4.0Ghz+ overclocks. Not stock clocks.

Solution
1.7v will kill the chip very quickly, like within minutes! stock voltage is around 1.2v I would go into the bios and factory reset everything. Max safe limit is 1.4v for long term use. Overclocking to 4.5Ghz+ is usually achieved between 1.3-1.4v.
