4690 or 4690k for Gaming Performance

I currently have a GTX 780 with an old FX Cpu and I want to upgrade to intel. Should I go the H97 + 4690 route or Z97 + 4690k route? Would an overclocked 4690k & 4.0/4.5ghz have a noticeable performance increase over a 4690 in most games? What about in more CPU intensive games?

This video seems to showcase the K superiority over games like Arma, is it a credible example?

I would suggest the best possible performance, which is the Z97 + i5-4690k. It definitely helps. You might not need to overclock now but in the future when you upgrade to a much more powerful graphics card you might need the extra horse power.

I would say Z97 / 4690k or better yet Z170 and a 6600k. The new SkyLake chips are releasing in 4 days. Why not wait and get the go forward technology?

You will get great performance either way with or without a 'K' series chip however the price difference is relatively small. 2 years from now I doubt you will think of the $40 you would had saved and all of the 'Wonderful' things you could had done with that $40.

Out of curiosity what FX chip do you currently have? With a GTX780 driving it I would think you could max out a lotta games.

Is the 6600k that much better than the 4690k in terms of gaming performance? Do the SkyLake chips introduce new technology for future gaming implementations? Or is it just a general performance bump that differs from game to game?

Also my CPU is a FX-6100, which if you're not aware... Quite terrible it turns out lol, definitely holds my 780 back quite a lot.
