My system is
I5 4690k stock speed not overclocked
16gb ddr3 ram
Gigabyte d3h z97 mobo
Gtx 970 ssc

My question is if I upgraded to a 2070 would I be worse off on performance because of the bottleneck. Just I can't afford to upgrade the cpu, mobo and ram right now. So is spending 400 on a new gpu a waste of money ??

Thanks

Oooo and forgot to mention I am just gaming on a 144hz 1080p monitor and mainly playing games like rust, dayz and 7 days to die

Solution
Performance won't be worse, but a 2070 will surely push an i5 4690k to its maximum performance, and limit the potential performance of the GPU (GPU will be barely sweating, CPU will be at 100% utilization). It'll work fine until you get a new CPU assuming your PSU can power the 2070.

I PAIRED AN rtx 2060 with a cpu somewhat similar to yours ( i5 7400) and the performance was awful . the bottleneck was so hard and i faced so many Fps drops in certain games . i am not saying u will face the same problems in your games . it depends on the game you play . but my experience was unpleasant
