4690K OC and Temps

I got my new i5 about a week ago and initially set it at 4.2Ghz/1.125v/62c max. I thought to myself dang I must have won the lottery, undervolted at 4.2Ghz! Well today I thought id try and bunp it up to 4.5Ghz, 1.150 nope, 1.175, nope, 1.200, nope then I said screw it and went right to 1.250 just to get in and it passes prime with temps maxing out at 73,73,72,67 with a 212 Evo and AS5.

I know the temps are still ok but is it normal to have such a jump needed in vcore for only 300 Mhz ? ?

I guess I guessed the magic number because I tried going to 4.6 and it failed a minute in. went back to 4.5 but at 1.240 and it made it about 10 minutes of prime 26.6 with the same temps and BSOD randomly. Just kind of disappointing when I hear about 4790k's doing 4.5 with only 1.125v, I suppose the i7's are probably binned a bit higher. I guess that is the silicon lottery for ya.

you still got a decent overclocker, some people have issues at 4.2 lol and mine seems to top out at 4.4ghz and 4.6 is doubtful cause the jump from 4.2 to 4.4 was from 1.170v to 1.238v

Seems like you and I are right about on the same pace then as far as vcore needed. I am still at 4.5 amd I managed to wiggle it down to 1.247 but that is as far as it is going. I don't want my temps any higher than the 73c max I am at now so 4.5 is where I stay until I get some water going.
