Hi,
So I noticed that my CPU was running very hot this week, and decided it was time to replace the termal paste. At this time I also noticed that the cooler block had actually come loose from the CPU itself. No wonder with the temps then!
After reapplying, I saw definite improvement(was idling at around 80c before), but it's still running a lot hotter than it used to.
Currently I'm only running a 4GHz clock done by just changing the multiplier, and it's idling around 40-50c, and I have to stop prime95 for fear of killing the chip when it reaches the high 90c mark. What's weird is that I used to run it at 4,3GHz with temps well under 80 when running prime95. My cooler is a Corsair h100iGTX.
So main question is, has running it for a while with the cooler loose just damaged the CPU beyond fixing? And if not, what can I do to lower the temps a bit, and potentially get a bit more speed?
Thanks!
