I have an i5 4690k that I bought for a new system which I finished today, but the cpu temps shown in the BIOS are 65°. What could be going on? The CPU is running on its stock cooling fan.

Solution
Stock cooler .... ? You can't install the stock cooler TIM wrong as it's preinstalled....so if it's the cooler, it's probably not secured properly.

BIOS temps should not be used to determine the actual idle temps as the CPU doesn't throttle down when in BIOS. Download / install HWiNFO64 (Assuming you have 64 bit OS), boot int windows, launch the utility (sensors only) and wait for the CPU to downclock to 800 Mhz. Then look at your Core temps.

To check under load, download RoG Real Bench and run the stress test (not benchmark)

I will be doing that, but there shouldn't be a reason as to why it is running so hot, consudering its brand new. Should I just return it and ask for a new one?
