4690K VS 4790K Future proof gaming?

Hi, im about to buy a new processor. What is better for gaming that'll be used for about the next 3 years?

i5 4690k
i7 4790k?

Both would be OCed and I just want to know if the i7 is really worth it

I was on the fence before on this myself. But after seeing more and more games supporting multiple threads, I think the 4790k is a nice safe buffer to fall back on. One example is the new Dragon Quest game. Minimum is an older i7. GTA I think benefits from an i7 as well, IIRC.

$100 extra spent now to prevent spending even more later by upgrading twice is likely well spent.

For gaming you really do not need the extra threads from the 4790k.
If you were doing rendering or similar threaded work loads I recommend the Xeon 1231v3. It is a 4770 without an iGPU.

However, for just gaming take a look at the 6600k+Z170
