4770 amps and power consumption?

first of all is this a good card to upgrade from 9600 gt?

and will it run on a 575watt 25amp on 12v rail?

upgrading to e7400 , 4770 , gigabyte g41

i was told 9600 gt run with little power , so I am wondering will 4770 use more power than 9600 gt?

The HD 4770 is faster than a 9600GT and 9800GT. It basically competes against the GTS 250. It also consumes less power than the 9600GT.

Your new system should use a little less power the e7400 (65W TDP) and the 4770 (18W idle 50W max3d) as opposed to P4 3.4 (85W TDP) and 9600GT (28W idle and 60W max3d). Add it all up and you should be able to run your system on a 250W supply, with more than twice this to hand the real problem is leaving the system running at idle. The PSU could be pumping out as little as 50W leaving it well outside it's optimal efficiency range so don't expect to save a whole heap on your utility bills if you leave it on all the time.
This should give you about 30W headroom at full tilt and probably even more at idle as the newer Intel CPU should be able to throttle-back further.
If you want to save a few extra watts then, assuming good case airflow, you could try a big passive cooler and reduce the fan count by one

Seriously though, the system will almost certainly burn fewer watts than your current one and should run a good bit cooler too. I run a Q6600 and 4850 1GB(passive cooled) and 8GB RAM from a 625W Enermax and that's total overkill even when I push the CPU over 3GHz. You could add a second 4770 and still be well under the wire here.

You are severely bottlenecked by the CPU if you use the HD4770.

To explain, look at the following chart. The AMD X2-4800+ (when paired with the HD4770) in most games is likely the weak link but just barely so the HD4770 is the perfect card for this CPU or a similarly performing NVidia card. Your P4 doesn't have near the processing power of the X2-4800+.

Also, don't expect anywhere near the performance the charts show for the HD4770. It's likely been tested with an i7 920 CPU which doesn't bottleneck it.

The cards not expensive, but since you won't be able to utilize it very well you may not see a huge difference in gaming. You really need a much better CPU.
