I have a 4770K OC to 4.4ghz and I was wondering would I really gain much by going to the 6700K . I like the features that Z170 offers, but are they really worth the upgrade .Thanks for any feedback

Solution
Unless you are making money with your CPU, I don't think so. Yes the 6700 is 15% or more, more efficient and you should be able to overclock it as well or better. I just don't think that the $700+ cost of cPU, motherboard and memory, plus possible OS reload is worth it. Even if the i7 7600K dropped right in an LGA 1150 socket, with no other change, it would not be worth it for gaming.

If this is a money-making machine than 10 - 15% more gold is a good thing and you will get the cost back quite quickly.

You will gain literally nothing for the $ invested. Keep your current system - which is a great performer - until something better releases (Skylake-E or the next "tock").

If you were building a new system from the ground up right now, sure, go with the Skylake, but it's not anything that justifies an upgrade over your current build.

For gaming, I agree, very little. for rendering or 3d processing going from even 10 hours to 9 or 8 hours is significant, so there I disagree.

We need to be sure this is a gaming system.

Yes this is a gaming rig..I do mess with Adobe indesign and Illustrator,I don't do it for money..So I guess I will hang on to it .I was just hearing so much hype on the 6700K ,but wasn't sure it was justified in a upgrade.

And in that case, a fancy 6-core Haswell-E would probably be right up your alley rather than a 6700K.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. He has a 4770k now, and unless he is experiencing problems, why should he upgrade at all?

CPU's these days can last several years before you need an upgrade. That 4770k has plenty of life still.
