4790k 5.0ghz can it go on this cooler

Well that's definitely a good motherboard for overclocking. But InvalidError is absolutely correct. Each individual chip will overclock a bit differently than the next of the exact same model chip. 5Ghz is quite ambitious though. I would love to see that bad boy in action though if you got it to 5Ghz. I would think you also would want a fan controller for all your system fans and everything to try and create as much air movement as you can get. Good luck though. Please PM me if you can get it to 5Ghz or even close for that matter and let me see some benchmarks. I would really enjoy seeing what it's capable of.

I've been successful reaching 4.8 Ghz although it BSOD' after a few hours so I'll have to tweak a few settings, but I've been successful getting it stable at 4.7Ghz with my setup. With those components it could certainly be possible..but its all luck of the draw. Hell i upgraded from an i7 4770k that couldn't get past 4.3 Ghz.

Well there's your problem. Unless you have thee chip to end all chips 1.275 isn't enough for 4.9 stable. Id argue nobody has posted those numbers.

Add a 10th of a volt then you'll be in the right area for those clocks on a better than average chip.

I have a beauty and after 4.8 the voltage requirements took off like a spaceship. Granted I'm getting 5ghz off less than it took my 4770k to get 4675.

Overall worthwhile upgrade. (Better spent elsewhere though assuming their was something else TO upgrade in that price range)

Oh maxwell where art thou
