4790k always at Turbo Boost??

When my 4970k is at load (gaming etc.) it clocks itself to 4.2 ghz (turbo boost) and i stays there.. Why? :) I thought that turbo boost only activates in a few seconds at the time to avoid the HIGH temps!

Turbo boost in my opinion is kind of a gimmick because that's normal behavior of turbo boost. I have both a i5 2410M dual core and a I5 4690K Quad core and both always go to turbo speeds when at any noticeable load.

However I could care less because turbo boost makes the cpus run faster anyways.

Are you experiencing high temps?

Allright. Yes, the temps worries me a little bit. At gaming, (30-50% load) i'm reaching 60-69 C.. Cooler: Noctua NH-U9B SE2

Can i trust that it will slow down if it gets "too hot"? Right now i monitor my temps CONSTANTLY, which i don't like that i have to.. :)

That is low enough that turbo boost won't throttle back. You have to get into the 80s to get any kind of throttling.

But, that is a bit high for a cooler like that. Are you sure you put it on good?

You don't have to monitor those temps, that isn't near the 100C max temp. If it gets to 75C or higher is when you need to watch the temps.

I think it's high too :/ I think it is on good.. I have just reinstalled it. Put some new antec thermal grease on, placed the heatsink and tightened the 2 screws..
When i run stress tests (100% load) - it instantly goes to 70 C and increases to 80's until i stop the stress test..

How about vcore or CPU voltage?

If you look into your bios see what the vcore is at. If it's at 1.27 or 1.3v then that's why it's running so hot.

This is what my voltages looks alike (i think) - i don't know anything about voltages :)

Strange, looks good to me.

Here's another method to make sure it is your vcore or not:

Install CPU-Z (a program that tells you your cpu info)

After that, run it and put a high load on the computer like rendering/gaming or anything heavy. Then look at CPU-Z and tell me what the core voltage is (tell me the highest voltage you see on cpu-z).

I appreciate your help!
It is on 1.152V mostly. I saw some peaks/spikes to 1.160V

That's low so it defiantly is your Cooler. (To put in perspective, I have a i5 4690K and when overclocked to 4.5ghz at 1.230v it would get around 55-60C (only that high when stress testing)).

I would buy a new cooler, either a liquid cooler (better but more expensive) or a good air cooler.

BTW... I took a look at your CPU temps in the BIOS and that's pretty high for only browsing around in the BIOS. (not even my CPU with intel stock cooler get's that hot).

Thank you. My last questions:
1. Why isn't my Noctua NH-U9B SE2 not better than this? It is a premium air cooler.. :/ It is weird, because reviews of this cooler on the internet says that it is great.. Even for a 4770k at 4+ ghz it is below 60 C at FULL load
2. If the cooler IS bad, would you recommend a Noctua NH-D15? My 1st priority is low noise (silent idling). I MIGHT overclock just a LITTLE bit some day in the future :)
