4790k Compatibility assurance

I have an Msi z87 g45 gaming mother board and I have read in many places that the I7 4790k won't work on it without a Bios update. I need to know exactly what update that is so I can have my computer ready for it. I can't flash with this mobo I don't believe so if I screw up im pretty much out of luck.

I currently have an I5-4590. V 1.9 I think

If v1.9, then the 4790k should work, but I'm not sure the gain in performance does justify the cost, unless OC-ing.
