4790k good for a gtx 1080?

I know it's a bit late to ask since I ordered a 1080 but is 4790k good enough to pair up with a gtx 1080 or should I upgrade

Yes, it's a pretty decent CPU doubtless.
Combined with a pair of 2x8GB of RAM it will be enable to easily game on 1440p if that's what you're looking for.

If anything, try to grab a juicy G-Sync monitor as well for a perfect combo with that 1080.

"Good" yes definitely. But certainly not the best. You'll still be able to get 100+fps on most games at 1440p.

I would say it is one of the best, in the top 5 CPUs for gaming.
