4790K High Core Temps w/out OC

Hello,

I have replaced my i5-4670K with i7-4790K to extend life of my rig and I am experiencing quite high temps during stress. I have run Prime95 26.6 for 15 minutes and my maximum thermal readings on Real Temp were around 80 C (see screenshot), ambient temp 22 C, good airflow in case. When I run OCCT (Large data set) it jumps sometimes to 90 C. I know regarding the Sticky topic about Intel CPUs that Prime represents 100% workload and OCCT 120% workload.

I don't OC, set to stock frequencies wit turboboost enabled. I have set vcore voltage manually 1.175 V (stable), when on Auto in BIOS, my MB set voltage over 1.4 V (nonsense).

I use non-stock cooler SilentiumPC Spartan 3 PRO HE1024 (not a champion, but better than stock), I have applied thermal compound smoothly over the CPU (not a big difference when I apply rice in the middle of CPU).

I don't know if I should RMA CPU (it is new one).

80c isn't crazy for p95 with an air cooler like that one. It's hot but not dangerous or anything. Minimums look great. You will probably never get close to the load you see with p95 in real applications. It's going to be a lot hotter than the i5. I say nothing to worry about.

Thanks for answers.

I was only afraid about summer temps, when ambient won't be 22 C but for example 27 C. I was also worried about OCCT hitting over 90 C... Those test run with cold GPU, when gaming, there will more heat produced, so I was thinking about higher CPU temp during gaming with big CPU/GPU load. I know that throttling starts at 100 C, but I have read that temps over 75 C are not healthy for my CPU...
 
i have a 4790(non-k) turbo boosted to 4.0 MHz in another computer and with a noctua U12S cooler, my temps run high 60s with Prime95 26.6

just to give you a comfort factor, when i first built this computer i relied on Asus's AI Suite III (their "performance monitoring utility") and it always reported 67C max temp whenever i was rendering video files, load would be 99-100%.
i rendered videos for 3 months thinking my cpu was at 67C. Forget why,, but i downloaded HWMonitor and was a little shocked to see my temps at 98-100C, while ASUS AI Suite III was reporting 67C. I downloaded intel's XTU and it showed the same 98-100C temps.

I upgraded my cooler, got my temps to what they should be, and started running benchmarks in that intel XTU utility - one nice part of that utility, after running a benchmark it will let you upload your benchmark to their website, and compare to others running the same motherboard and cpu. Consistenly, i place in the top 5% score wise, so i'm fairly certain intel's thermal limits do their job of protecting the cpu well. That's after running that cpu rendering video files, 3-5 hour jobs, 2 daily, 5 days a week for 3+ months with the temps bouncing off 100C down to 98, then bouncing right back to 100C

and that was 3 years ago - i still run the occasional benchmark with the same result
