4790k is the top model for 4th Gen, what about for 6th Gen?

Hi,

As far as I know, I think i7-4790k is almost the top CPU of 4th Gen i7 Processors. For 6th Gen, is the i7-6700k the top of 6th Gen already? Will there be any possibility of having a CPU greater then 6700k?

(I am just talking about LGA 1150 for 4th Gen and LGA 1151 for 6th Gen)

The 4790K was an 'upgrade' to the 4770K.

Nothing prevents Intel from releasing better binned 6700Ks as a 6720K with improved performance, or changing the package/case construction and TIM.

If Kaby Lake is delayed for some reason, they might have to do something like this with Skylake-Refresh.

So, yes, there is a possibility, the real questions is the probability. :)

I'm pretty sure Kaby Lake is the Skylake refresh. The 6700k is the best you're going to see on LGA 1151 until Kaby Lake hits, and even then, Kaby Lake will be pretty much the same thing except maybe with slightly better stock clockspeeds.
