Hello,
Is it worth buying the 4790K for 279.99 and a board within 150$(I don't buy crappy boards) at this point ? for a gaming system.
People still say and talk about Broadwell. Will that beat the 4790K ? and when will it release ?

Solution
i7 4790k is a great processor and i7-5775C and Core i5-5675C coming later for the 1150 socket will not over shadow the Devils cannon however they mite be more power efficient.

Computers are ever evolving WAITING for the next bigger and better thing will only lead to MORE waiting again etc, since they release new tech every 6-12 months.you can be sitting there going ''dude i'm going to wait for the new skylake chips'' or you can be on a computer playing games having fun now.

Getting caught in that nasty cycle of ''i want the best tech'' when you will be outdated in a few months is kinda a waste.

^micro center should pay me for advertisement this is like the 4th...
Broadwell will only show minimal cpu improvements over haswell. K models of broadwell will launch after locked ones, so it might take about half a year until an I7 4790k equivalent launches.

Either way, for a pure gaming system an I5 4690k + cooler will do just as well as the I7 + cooler. Even a $30 212 evo would bring the I5 to 4.4+ ghz.

Also, what do you understand under "crappy motherboards"? A $300 z97 board doesn't get noticeable more performance out of an I7 4790k at stock than a $30 h81 board does.
What motherboard you choose should depend on what features (or design) you want and need. But since $120 z97 boards in general offer all things that have real use (sli, m.2, etc.) more expensive boards tend to just add fancy buttons like clear cmos (you'd normally have to touch two metal pins), on board temperature reading + display, a killer lan chip that has yet to prove its benefits, better sound chips or even just a pcb cover for the look.

If you could wait, getting the newest version can be good. But if you don't have any patience go with either the 7 4790k and a Z97 motherboard. Broadwell will probably run on LGA1150 so you'll be able to use your motherboard later on. The i7 4790k will last you a long time if you're willing to lower the settings. IMO, I would just get the i7.

If you can get the 4790k for $280, that's a good price. Makes me wish I lived near a microcenter, they've had some good deals. Shame they don't ship. 🙁 Rather than waiting for broadwell (which may or may not make it to lga1150 depending which speculation is floating from one week to another), may as well hold out for skylake on the 1151 or get the 4790k. I doubt the performance increase will be huge with either (same as 3rd vs 4th gen).
