4790K Overclocked to 5ghz on water

I finally managed to get to 5ghz on water cooling.
With some modding, lapping and time, I would say everything turned out pretty good.

4790k at 5.0ghz 1.41v
MSI G45 gaming
custom loop from EKWB

I got pretty lucky with my chip because I was able to overclock it all the way to 5ghz just using the multiplier, and a 50x multiplier is pretty uncommon haha.

Here are some pictures or delidding my cpu and then lapping my waterblock to have it flat. Before it was getting up to 90c at 4.9ghz.

















Now lapping time haha.




As you can see in the last photo, my waterblock was not flat until now. I could understand if it was in the center to make better contact but this was so far off onto the side.


Here are the results while benchmarking in XTU after stress testing. Sorry for the weird crop haha.

what did you use to lap the heatsink?

I used 2 sheets of sand paper. One semi fine and then really fine. I dont remember which grit ahah

Yer i wouldn't do it that way, the paper will cause the heatsink to have dips in the flat surface, should really be honed flat
