4790K will last up until the PCIE 4.0 released?

Hello guys, I just wanted to ask if my 4790k will last up until the GPU's that will support PCIE 4.0 released? haswell and skylake is still using the PCIE 3.0 and I'm not sure if the next gen GPU's can be used with my 4790K (I just don't want to upgrade my CPU anymore, I just heard that the new PCIE 4.0 GPU's will not work on PCIE 3.0)

Yeah, pci-e 3.0 (and backwards) cards will be made for a while yet.

When we changed from AGP to PCI-E, graphics cards came in both flavours for a little while.

PCIe has always been backwards compatible, and there's no appreciable performance difference when running a modern PCIe 3.0 GPU in a 2.0 slot. Chances are good the 4790K will work until and well beyond when 4.0 is released.

Heck, even PCI-E 1.0 x16 [equivalent in bandwidth to PCI-E 3.0 x4] is only stressed by Titan class GPUs. PCI-E 4.0 won't be necessary for over a decade, at minimum.

PCI 2.0 @ 8x is enough for any GPU, even a Titan X.
