4820k vs 3820 for gaming?

Hello, I am building a new desktop now, spec as following:

Asus Rampage IV Black Edition (2011 socket)
16 gb Trident 2666mhz ram.
Geforce GTX770 4gb Rev 2.0
Samsung 250gb ssd
Corsair hydro i100
CM Storm Stryker

Now for the million dollar question, the store didn't have in stock the 4820k cpu, they only had the i7-3820 in my price range.
So will I notice any big differences for gaming with the 3820, will it be as good as the 4820k OCed, or should I wait until they get one of the other cpus in stock?
Heat and power usage doesn't bother me, so is ivy-e that much better than sandy bridge for my use?
I know Rampage and 2011 socket is overkill, but i bought it simply to be able to upgrade cpus when the higher core cpus becomes a bit cheaper, and I wanted something a bit bad ass :)
I have been reading up on it, but the differences seems fairly small, so what's your opinion?

Hi there.
What i found out with quick searching, 4820k would be slightly better overall, as you can see from link underneath.
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-3820-vs-Intel-Core-I7-4820k

Pricing on both isn't much different either, based on amazon.
Now, thing that makes me wonder, is your reason to choose i7 over i5, other than that Socket only offers i7 CPUs.
Any chance you could consider Haswell build or is 2011-socket "Must have" for you?

I am not a professional, but i couldn't see nearly ANY difference on my i5-4670k with my test 4770k in Gaming.
And pricing on those were 100 bucks apart.
If your going lga 2011 you always go 3930k or 4930k minimum getting the 3820 or 4820 is a huge waste of money. Might as well have gone haswell if thats your plan the higher IPC of has well would preform better. Get a 3930k at least or your build is a waste like your ram. What could you want 2600mhz for it gives no performance boost in gaming

1million $ answer (with another question ofc): will you notice the difference between a Sandy Bridge chip (i72600k ie) and a Haswell chip (i7 4820 ie) in gaming? let me tell you, NO !
The difference in the real world are neglijable ^^ In the best case scenario you will get a 15% in benchmark NUMBERS, thats it.

I take it you didn't read or understand the thing I said about waiting for cpus like that to become cheaper? They are double the price here than the two others I listed.
I wanted the 2011 socket and 2666mhz ram because I could, and I think it's up to me to decide if I buy it or not. I won't be having to think about upgrading the ram for a while now will I?

I accidentally clicked "Choose as solution on your post" 😛 Yeah I have seen that comparison before, but I would just like to know if I would notice any difference in real gaming life. The reason for lga 2011 socket is just that the Rampage board made my mouth water, that oc panel, and the look of it.

Thanks for the input! Guess i'll just go with the 3820 for now, and then upgrade it later on :)

I think it's safe to say "absolutely not. you would not see difference on gaming betwen those two"
Oh yea. That mobo is really a cutie, can't denie that :)

Asus also has those 1150-socket formulas out there, that look quite tasty as well.

Altho, when i was building my own game-rig. Asus Sabertooth got my eyes on that board so fast, nothing was able to change my mind once i saw it.
But yea. Hope you got the answer you were looking for and good luck with your new rig :)

I would really recommend against it. You will likely get better performance from the 4770k + Z87 for less money.

Its really not worth going socket 2011 unless you get a 6 core CPU or need the PCI-e lanes for 3-4way SLI.

Well, the computer is already in the mail, i do however plan on getting a 6 or 8 core when the prices drop on them, but thanks anyway :)
