Hey all thanks for your ideas, now I see here a toms hardware the 8800GT outperforms the 4850 in all the game benchmarks in their graphics charts, which one should I aim for?
4850 or 8800?

The 4850 absolutley DESTROYS the 8800 series. In all benchmarks (even beats most of the 9 series too) the 4850, and 4870 own any 8 series nVidia card.

Yo idiot, learn to read THOSE ARE ALL IN SLI MODE! a single 8 series card has no chance in He!! of beating a 4850, let alone a 4870 (sadly the SINGLE 4850's equal to many of the SLI'ed 88's)(for much less $ too)

Well the numbers are going to be displaying the power of the processor more than anything at super low resolutions like that. It may be some quirk of driver and hardware support, but yea, the 8800 series cards may just be flat out awesome at low resolution Call of Duty 4 play.

I'm not defending TH vga charts as they're pretty terrible. Any mass of data collected in one place with no given context is bound to be useless.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-charts-q3-2008/Assassins-Creed-v1-02,740.html

puts a single 280 above a pair of 280s in SLI.

I exported it to excel and in total the gains are to the 8800GTS (512MB) vs the 4850, the 9600GT vSLI generally out performs the 8800GTS, i am told the HD4850 is faster but I dont see this and exspecially in Flight sim x the 4850 falls WAY behind
what should I get im looking at 9600GT SLI now

Flight sim x is one of the few games that is more CPU dependent that GPU.
If that what you are aiming at look for a quad core CPU.
Other wise quit arguing with people that are trying to help you in the right direction.

i wno both those cards and yes in real life gaming 4850 is faster in everything but crysis so if you build to play crysis then get nvidia but for every other gaming 4850 hands down

Hi. Look, lashton. If you would like to compare general performance check the "Sum of FPS Benchmarks", at the resolution you prefer. If you want to play a specific game, then check specific benchmarks. F. Sim X is the less representative of them all.

Just look, in F.Sim X, ATI 2900,4850,2600,4870,3850 ,etc.all of them around 23 or 25 fps. And also you´ll see your beloved 8800gt beating a gtx280. Ridiculous to use that benchmark as an evidence of any gpu's power.

Now, in general performance, a 4850 beats any 8800 at any resolution. Not to speak the 9600gt (wich is INFERIOR to a 8800gt, not the way around)

Oh, i forgot. Pay attention. Ignore any card configuration wich says SLI or CF at the end of the line. Those are 2 cards put together.

Unless, of course, you're thinking of SLIing or CFing.
