4870 CrossFire or 5870 with current PSU

I currently have this OCZ 700 Watt Power Supply and a HIS IceQ4+ 4870 1GB.

it only has 2 6 pin pcie power cables but i have enough free molex connections to use adapters for the 3rd and 4th connections needed for 2 4870's. I'm not going to be buying anything anytime soon but i'm always thinking of possible upgrades (like any other enthusiast) and i was wondering if there is any disadvantage to using 6pin power adapters for graphics cards? This will effect my decision to, in the future, either upgrade to a single 5870 or crossfirex two 4870...so any thoughts?

Till the DirectX 11 cards become mainstream and after availability of the DirectX 11 games, upgrade to the HD 58xx series...Till then hold on to your HD 4870...

That is exactly what I am doing. I have xfired 4870s right now. From the looks of the benchies...the 4870x2 is pretty comparable to one 5870.

For one I will wait for DX11 to come about but most importantly, I am waiting for NV to answer back so that they can start their price wars.

You'll be waiting awhile

@OP, keep your 4870. The 5XXX won't drop much until they get competition, but the rest of their cards should in the next few months.

Yep, I'm hanging in there with my old technology. There isn't much out there that I can't completely max out at 19x12 (except for Crysis, which can chug a little)

I'm still running XP, so DX11 means nothing to me until I invest in Windows 7.

I'm wondering how crossfired 4890s or crossfired 4870X2s will fare compared to the 5870.

As the drivers mature I'm hearing good things about 4870X2 crossfire. If the prices drop radically, and I find any new games are limited by my GPUs I might try a pair of these at some point before moving to the 5xxx series.

Yeah, not in a hurry. Besides, this is looking like a paper launch anyway.
I mainly want to see what DX11 does first. Don't want to spiral down a DX10 hole again [:mousemonkey:2]

You could easily just switch to the CF. As those cards die out, or when you want DX11, go with the 5870's.
