5770 is not close to 4890 in performance.
It is close to 4870 and it is a bit slower than 4870.

Read this article...There is a synthetic DX11 benchmark, a single DX11 game benchmark, and mostly DX10 games. The potential of DX11 cards will be maximize in the coming months next year with more DX11 base applications. The 5000 family cards are optimize for it and far more efficient.

If you are to purchase a new card today it is recommended to go for DX11 hardware.

In the short term the 4870/4890 will be better but and the long term with more DX11 apps you will be better with 5770. Look at the big disparity in power consumption between the old card and new cards. Its ~ 80Watts per card difference between 5770 and 4890.

The 4890 is a MUCH more powerful card than the 5770. There is always a lot of hype around the next Dx version and how it will change gaming, but the actual differences are always pretty slight. Any advantages the 5770 has because of DX11 will not make up for the lack of power when compared to the 4890, and that is assuming there will be any Dx11 games you actually want to buy. The fact is most of the top games right now are still DX9, so saying you MUST buy 5xxx series for performance is just not true.

The obvious question is what you are looking for in a graphics card. Is it performance for *right now* or longevity.

If you are looking for an immediate upgrade and you plan on switching up graphics card in the next couple years then the 4890 you list is a no-brainer. The performance is unmatched between the 4870 and the 5770. A truly amazing DirectX 10.1 card for the money!

If you are looking for something that will be pretty good right now, has *far* lower power consumption, and will support the next generation of DirectX 11 games then you might consider the 5770 which you did not list as an option but price-wise is quite similar. This is the path I personally went for the power efficiency and the longevity of the card.

Newegg link for HIS 5770 for 162.99

So it really comes down to what you feel is the best path for YOU and YOUR computer.
