I know, I know, 4870 vs GT260 is all over the place...bare with me for a moment.

I've read all of the reviews, and realize the 4870 is marginally faster than the GT260. What I have not been able to find, however, is information about the overclockability of these 2 cards. Toms mentions briefly about the 260, but I haven't seen any benchmarks with these 2 cards overclocked.

I should be able to max out the oc potential in a water cooled system, but which card will push farther? It looks like the 260 gets very respectable overclocks, but I haven't found any data for the 4870. Anyone compared these two in the overclocking arena?

its about getting best price/performance... its not moot...

gtx 260 OCs really well but the 4870 can OC upto 850 -ish core and 1100 -ish memory on the standard boards...

Diamond is supposed to release a 4870 black edition that changes the firmware so that it can use clocks upto 950 and clocks over 1200 mhz... thats what i'm getting... unless the 4870 is about 100 bucks more than that

There's nothing stopping you from overclocking and gaming... :)
Unless you don't have very good cooling in your case.

I have a PowerColor 4870 and you can overclock it very easily. I used the factory overclock tool on the ATI Catalyst Control Panel and my 4870 is running stable at 790 mhz core and 1000 mhz memory core.
