Been getting problems with my 4870x2 as of late. Im not sure when it started happening, It either started happening, when i upgraded to an i7 processor, or when my previous PSU (Corsair 750) blew up. (now using antec cp-850)

On Desktop using manual fan control, at 45% my 4870x2 is at , 54deg which is normal as far as i tell. but if i ever launch a 3d game, the primary gpu gets very hot, and within a 60seconds it will be at 95deg, Which triggers the card to automaticly adjust my fan speed to 100%, And is very very loud. even with all my case fans on high, it doesent seem to change it, (with them and 4870x2 its like being in Serveroom) I tried underclocking it to 505mhz, but didnt seem to make much differnce to the tempreture.

Im wondering if its a software or hardware causing the problem i remember some friends saying a driver problem was causing it, and should i use my warranty?

If you know any good applications i can use to show my test gpu etc tell me and il post the screenshots.

System Specs:
Operating System : windows 7 r1100
Graphics driver : 9.6 Catalyst
Motherboard : gigabyte GA-3X58-UD34 (rev 1.0)
Case Antec 1200

did ur old PSU blow with the 4870x2 in your rig or did u upgrade PSU and GFX at the same time??

If it did blow with ur 4870x2 then it may have caused some damage to your card

Uber 😀

What games are you playing that get the card that hot that quick ? If it is a game like L4D then you have a problem....if it is crysis, stalker clear sky or empire total war then it is completely normal. If you want to get rid of the 100% fan jolts the only way I found how to do that was to install an accelero Xtreme 4870X2, good luck.

My Gfx car was in the rig when the psu went bust, im getting it with any 3d game i play, Americas Army 3, WoW, Heroes of Newerth.

Well did some more testing with game, if i play AA3 , it does it within 30seconds of loading onto a server, if i play team fortress 2 it takes like 5 mins to start, and would only be at 100% for about 15 seconds, then goes back to normal speed with WoW it would do it in about 5 minuits and last 60 seconds and is usually around 92deg.

If i turn Manual fan control off, CCC ramps up the cpu to about 89% to try and cool the card down.

but i have a friend with same card, and case only he has an AMD cpu, and he doesent get these problems, and i never used to get them either. going to try and warranty the card.
