4890 vs 4890

Did you google reviews on both cards? What did they reveal?

Professional reviews from reliable sites should be better than anecdotal information, even from experts unless they have done a thorough review and comparison. Hopefully you can find one that has stats on them head to head - but even if not the reveiws should be extremely informative.

Double life time works well when re selling(XFX), both coolers vent into the case instead of out and asus looks like it's further from reference board i'd say asus has better cooling and oc ability, i'd go with asus just because i like things cool because then i can turn down fan rpm for more silent gaming.

XFX has better warranty but I've found asus' customer support is better but that's personal experience most with mobo and other things as my cards are bfg or evga (nvidia cards)

The XFX 4890 does not run that much warmer than the Asus, so in all it would be wiser to choose a lifetime warranty over a few degrees. If anything happens to the XFX you get a new card no questions asked.... If the OP upgrades the GPU every 2 years then the Asus would be good chioce as well....

If you overclock and fry the GPU (due to the OC) then YES the warranty is void, if you just overclock and lets say the card died due to other reasons then NO the card is still under warranty. GPU's dont die due to OC'ing alone, they die cause stupid people don't monitor temps and/or raise fan speed manually. Or they do not know what they were doing in the first place.

I shuold have been clearer, but OverClkr brushed away the cobwebs, heh. Besides, how would they know if it was OC'd if it is fried from heat? That is an actual question, btw, not rhetorical. Anyone know?

When a GPU dies due to excessive heat (non-OC) it barely leaves a mark. When it has been heavily overclocked it leaves a bigger more obvious mark. This in turn lets the tech know if the card died due to normal operation or if it was altered in any way.

haha.... i just dropped the OC on my xfx 5770 when i read your comment. Thanks

ATI auto-tune weird on me, first recommends 885/1415 (850/1200 stock) then 950/1315...

I was able to run 3d Vantage at 940/1430, but now just dropped it a bit to 920/1420

If you overclock the card just check temps and you should be fine. Normally the issue is when you are not paying attention and it overheats.
