4890 vs. 6950

I have been using a Radeon 4890 OC 1GB and I'm looking to upgrade. I purchased it in 2009 for close to $200 with MIR, so I'm not expecting to pay much more than $200-$230 after tax for a replacement.

I play at 1440x900, so I'm look for the best upgrade at this price point. Will I notice a huge difference with the 6950?

Also, what brands do you suggest? MSi? Gigabyte? EVGA? I want to be able to OC my card to get the most value out of it.

Don't upgrade your GPU unless you get a better monitor.
For 1440x900,a 4890 is enough and can handle games fine.

Already sold my Radeon 4890 as it was not performing well at all with BF3 at that resolution.

Ideally I'd like to use the money from that and maybe $100 more to get a card that can max out games like BF3, GTA 4, and Crysis 2.

Get the 6950 and you will be able to flash it to 6970, it is easy with some steps if you follow them correctly (even if you mess up you can recover it as explained in this article)

That's an old article though... I thought you couldn't flash these cards anymore?

Dont know, but my friend's 6950 unlocking was successful by using this article. maybe he has got a reference card I dont know.
so the unlocking doesn't work with the new 6950's? mm
