49 C - ok for 1200 Athlon?

Hey,

I have an Athlon 1200c - AXIA stepping cooled by a GlobalWin CAK38 (yes, loud as hell). Its now over clocked to 1350 Mhz (135x10) with 1.75 V. It stays at a cool 26 or 27 degrees C when its idling, but when its at 100% it jumps up to 49 degrees celcius. Is it the paste or maybe its not a good contact? I used regular paste, no Arctic Silver or anything. I really don't feel like taking it off the processor though, I've seen pics of cracked chips and I'm just scared is all. But maybe if this means that I could overclock somemore. I've tried 1400 Mhz, but it usually locks up. I've gone to 1.80 volts (1.85) indicated and it still locks up. Maybe ~1350 is my limit. Oh well, I guess I was just wondering how to get the chip cooler. Thanks.

Yes, that's very warm. My overclocked Athlon runs at 43C full load and ~40C idle. It may be the BIOS you're using. Which BIOS?

49C is fine...as long as your system doesnt crash or hang...anything under 55-60C is fine

Changing the thermal paste with Arctic Silver 2/3 probably will decrease the temps of your CPU with a couple degrees especially when at full load because heat can be transfered more easily to the heatsink.
If you be carefull when you mount the heatsink the change for a broken core will be very low.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground

Hah, my 1200 AXIA Rev C runs about 48-50 Degree C under loaded without any overclocking & it hasnt complained yet...

(admittidly I am getting a Delta fan at to replace of the current fan)

i got a reatial heatsink an right now a 100 % for about the last 10 day i have a temp of 43 celcius


man i most have a got agood chip it goes to 1350 at stock voltage with a 150 fsb. and it is as stable as can be at that speed
