49" Monitors are here; what do you need to drive them??

G'Afternoon, All,

I can make a decent business case for using one of the new 49" monitors. But what are the hardware requirements, both GPU and CPU, to use one of them for gaming...or is there even software to make use of a typical 144Hz HDR 4ms 3840x1080p monitor. None exist, so far, with G-Sync, but Free Sync is showing in both gen1 and gen2 versions.

So, whatcha think?

Double 1080p is pretty close to 1440p in terms of pixels (2x1080p is 12.5% more pixels). So just look at 1440p benchmarks and reduce the results by ~10% to get an idea of what performance you'd get with a given graphics card.

Resolution doesn't really impact CPU usage, but for 144 Hz gaming you need a pretty good CPU. Intel is still king for high FPS gaming last I saw. 9600K/9700K/9900K.

Gadszooks! So many good and useful answers....and so quickly!

Thanks, Guys!

Nobody has mentioned the other piece of my question, though: are current games set up to support 3840x1080?

I had hoped an overclocked gtx1070 might squeak through, but I guess I must sharpen my business case pencil just a bit more!

Great thread!

I think that settles it for me....if I can convince the boss to spring for the monitor along with a 2060!

Thanks again to you all
