I am looking for a CPU for my strictly Gaming PC.

I have noticed that I can get the 6600k for only 20 dollars more than the 4960k.

However the only DDR4 RAM I can afford is the Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM. Is this a good type of RAM?

Other than the small price difference in the RAM and the CPU would this be a better choice for gaming?

It is newer. That means it is also a little bit faster. The 4000 series CPU's are two years old now. The 6000 series CPU's are still in the process of being released. There is one other expense with the 6000 series CPU's. They no longer come with the crappy CPU cooler and fan that the older CPU's came with. So you need to buy one of those too. You can get a decent Cooler Master 212 Hyper cooler for about $30.

If you are putting together a new system, I do recommend going with the 6000 series. But if you are upgrading an older Intel based system that is less than 5 years old, I would hold off until it was about 5 years old. If you are coming from an AMD based system, I would go straight to the 6000 series.
