ASRock J4105-ITX motherboard, 2 x 4GB memory modules installed. BIOS, MEMTEST86, and Linux all show 16GB of total memory, it should be 8GB. I have reset the CMOS, removed the battery, tried one memory module at a time, each module shows in the BIOS as 8GB (the label on the module says 4GB). There are 8 chips on each module and the number on the chip is PP020-093 DG (which should be 256M x 16 bits, so should be 4GB module. Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

make and model of the memory sticks? test them in another pc and see what it states there to see if it's just your hardware. else, if not, they mislabeled the part

NEMIX MS19200-418
4GB 2400MHz PC4-19200 SODIMM

I don't have another system that uses DDR4 SODIMM, so I can't test it elsewhere.

My work laptop uses DDR4 SODIMM. The memory modules reported 8GB each in my work laptop as well. It looks like the memory modules were mis-labeled. memtest86 has run a few passes without error.
Thanks for the quick replies.
