I had just bought the part to a new custom computer and when I tried to start it up, the bios detected me Seagate hard drive but only 3950 mb of it. This is preventing me from installing windows onto my computer. I don't think that this is a connection problem since the bios detected it.

I don't know if I was suppose to format it or not since the hard drive didn't come with a disc

Tell us something about the other parts of your build, the mobo for example. And where do you see the 3950 mb? Did you try to install windows already and got an error message? Creating the partitions and formating it will be done by the win installer.

- Asus P8Z77 VLE motherboard
- Thermaltake Frio cooler
- Intel I5 3750k cpu
-2 Corsair Vengeance ram
- Corsair 650 w psu
- GTX 275 gpu
- 3T Seagate Barracuda HDD

I tried to test my motherboard by installing my old 1T western black HDD and the motherboard displayed ~1T of capacity on it. This is also true when trying to install windows 8 onto my hard drive. I can't partition my drives since my computer has no version of windows

Hello I have the same problem but when I boot the PC the HDD does a clicking sound and then in the bios it only shows 3950mb. I tried to install it on a PC with windows installed in another HDD but windows can t detect it so I believe it s a faulty drive.
