I have just sold my gtx 770 amp edition 2gb as it lacked the VRAM in spite of having a lot of power and I just could not put up with the constant stutters. Now i am planning on buying a gtx 970 4gb.

My question is in terms of VRAM..will the 970 with 4GB of VRAM be enough for maxing out the upcoming games like gta 5 and arkham knight on a 1080p screen with FXAA or SMAA that including textures as alot of games like ACU and WATCH DOGS already use up 3.5GB of VRAM on ultra textures while running on the 970 4GB on FXAA itself or will i need a something like the gtx 970 with 8gb vram? In my current budget i cannot afford multiple gpus so please tell me what will be my best bet in such a situation?

for the majority of titles your 2gb is still plenty, just because a game uses 3 gb of vram in an 4gb card doesn't mean your 2gb card is bottlenecked.
And while very few people here can predict the future, 4gb of vram for 1080p should be plenty for several years.

You generally should not purchase anything based on the performance of horribly coded games, like ACU and watch dogs, because almost anything will perform badly on these titles. 8gb of vram would be total overkill unless you're running several 4k monitors.

i agree with you on the badly coded games but since almost all the major games are having a similar issue like shadow of mordor which ive seen takes up almost 4gigs while running on ultra textures on a 970 so plz tell me what should be my next step in terms of buying a new gfx card?

If you want to upgrade, the 970 4gb offers the best value atm, by a fairly large margin if I may add. If you want to spend more, either go with 970 sli or 980.
Shadow of mordor ran fine on my 4gb card at ultra textures, and that game is quite the exception anyways.
When 8gb of vram is viable, the 980 carrying it will most likely not be, so just go with a 4gb card.

What kind of cpu are you rocking btw?

im just worried about the fact that almost all the games coming out are open world games and i am mostly worried about games like gta 5, witcher 3, the division what are your views on that for a single 970 4gb gpu?

The 970 is still like the 2nd fastest gpu on the market and since i cant predict the future I can only say that it will most likely max those games with flying colours. 8gb of vram on a consumer card is MOSTLY just a marketing trick.

2nd fastest card? the 295x2 is the fastest card out there and the titan comes the 2nd fastest

well either way the 290x in someways is better than the 970 it gives an extra 3-5 fps in some parts and with mantle you get an extra 20-40fps which puts the 970 in 3rd place for single GPU

Yes in mantle games the 290 and 290x will be at top, but there aren't that many games out there that utilize it AND the the 290x also costs more. So if you're concerned about performance buy 2 970s or one 980, either way you can't go wrong.
