Question 4k @ 144hz on HDMI 2.0b?

Good Morning!

I currently have an Asus Strix Laptop with 3050ti and 5600H combo. it has a HDMI 2.0b connection.

I am planning on building a new PC by the end of this year with a system than is capable of 4k 144hz.
[ question about my new build and this thread if anyone is interested:

The reason i am asking the question is this:

I have placed the order on Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 43" monitor and i am expecting it by the weekend. it has HDMI 2.1 ports. I am also getting HDMI 2.1 cables.

I know i will be restricted to 4k 60hz. But can i utilize DSC - display stream compression - and get 4k 120hz?

or i should downscale to 2k 120hz? if that is the case, can i upscale the image quality by any means in the TV settings? will the image be blurry?

any workarounds for me to get proper image quality and 120hz helps.

Thanks!

There basically isn't anything noticeable about 2K or 4K as the human eye can barely notice the difference of Full HD and 2K kinda. Best bet is to test out different outputs and settings to see what's the best for you. Shouldn't be hard since your using the worlds greatest gaming display out there lol....................................

Well, the good news is I will be getting the monitor today. So i can connect and see if DSC automatically enables.

I have 2k dell ultra sharp monitors in the office. when i use it at 1080p, the image is blurry. hence my worry and not really sold on "There basically isn't anything noticeable about 2K or 4K as the human eye can barely notice the difference of Full HD and 2K kinda"

are you using monitor upscaler or driver upscaler? there might be difference in clarity when you compare both

Do you mean image sharpening option in Nvidia Global preset? I have a RTX A1000 mobile GPU in my work laptop connected to 2 Dell 2k displays. So maybe difference in prosumer and gaming driver options?

Tried that feature and no noticeable effects...Maybe the Dell ultra sharp doesnt have sharpening features?

My Samsung G7 will be delivered this afteroon. So i can check it out this evening after office. I can update more with specific options then.

EDIT: read a bit about Nvidia image sharpening - its for full screen apps. not general display...I would be connecting my laptop to the G7. for content consumption 4k 60hz is fine i guess, but have to see what will be the case for Dota 2.

not image sharpening

scaling on gpu or monitor, that is choose no scaling and set perform scaling on monitor, then once you choose non native resolution, monitor upscaler will kick in, if theres none, you would see small picture with black borders

DSC is not active, it's just using chroma subsampling (YCbCr 4:2:0) which transmits the color information at 1/4 resolution to decrease the bandwidth. DSC is not supported on TMDS transmissions which is what HDMI 2.0 uses.
