Hello guys,
Need some help trying to game 4K @ 60Hz on my 4K TV. (3840 x 2160)

Ok here is the break down.

GPU: XFX FURY X
HDMI 1.4 and Display Port 1.2
(http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-r9-300-series/amd-radeon-r9-furyx-liquid-cooled-r9-fury-4qfa)

TV:
Samsung UN60HU8550
HDMI 2.0 and No Display Port
(http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/tv-av/tv/uhd/UN60HU8550FXZC)

Adapter:
Club 3D DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 UHD Active Adapter
(http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/displayport-12-to-hdmi-20-uhd-active-adapter.html)

Now with this setup, I am still not able to run at 60Hz. The only game I currently have to test is Assassin's Creed Unity (which I've heard to be choppy by nature).

My question to you guys is the only factor that may be hindering 60Hz is the HDMI cable. It is regular High Speed HDMI, not SPECIFICALLY HDMI 2.0. I've read around that expensive vs not expensive cables don't make a different. but I'm wondering in my situation of HDMI 2.0 if it does?

Do I need to invest in a HDMI 2.0 Specific cable? Or I'm just out of luck with my setup?

Most recently produced HDMI cables meet the HDMI2.0 standards by default. Just pushing the bits through the wires faster. Basically what changes is the maximum usable length, I believe.

Since you seem to have a converter that is capable. I would look at your HDMI cable closely. I picked up an Amazon Basics cable and it seems to do the trick for HDMI 2.0 -> HDMI 2.0.

I've found several articles stating that there isn't a cable difference, here is one http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/hdmi-2-0-explained/ I'm curious to know if you have found an article on the contrary. It would be nice if someone has tested this.

I just read on HDMI.org which might lead back to redgarl's point.

http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/hdmi_2_0_faq.aspx#123

They state:
"Does HDMI 2.0 require new cables?
No, HDMI 2.0 features will work with existing HDMI cables. Higher bandwidth features, such as 4K@50/60 (2160p) video formats, will require existing High Speed HDMI cables (Category 2 cables)."

Perhaps the wording is what is throwing me off where it says "will require EXISTING highspeed cables.." I don't know if the word existing is referring to existing HDMI 2.0 or even a HDMI 1.4 but with Category 2.

Category 2 refers to high speed HDMI which came out some time ago, there is not a new HDMI 2.0 cable.

So basically as long as I have at least a HDMI 1.4 (Category 2) cable, which I believe it is, if it's not then that's the issue, then I should have no troubles with 4K @ 60hZ?

For anyone who's still interested...so I went out and got a HDMI 2.0 specific cable just to put my what ifs to rest. (of course made sure that I could return it :))

The results are.....

Well, the game ran exactly the same as it did with HDMI 1.4. No difference, Especially considering my HDMI 1.4 is 50ft and the HDMI 2.0 is 10ft. So in the end HDMI 2.0 is just a marketing gimmick.

Is it worth it 40K@60Hz? I have a Gigabyte R7 260x OC 2Gb and I wonder if this adapter and going from 4K@30Hz to 4K@60Hz it's going to make the difference.

Thanks!!
