The title says it all. I currently have two 7970's in crossfire and am getting a 4k monitor. My only concern is that with the 7970's I only have 3gb VRAM while the 7990 has 6gb.

The only games I ever really play are SC2, Age of empires 2, Portal 2 and some other rts games. I feel that these games may not be taxing enough graphically to justify the upgrade.

I will also be running at least one other monitor at 1080p, probably 2.

Any thought?

Solution
7990 is for all intents and purposes identical to a pair of 7970 (generally slower due to thermals). It does not really have 6GB of VRAM, just 3GB per GPU.

If you are doing 4K, A pair of R9-290X or an R9-295X2 would be a better choice.

Before making the decision, buy the monitor and test performance.

Get R9 290X in CFX or the 8 Gigs version of it or the 295X2. I doubt if 7970 would do it. How much fps do you get in 1080p? You can divide it by 4 and expect that much fps in 4K as it is 4 times 1080p. It is not accurate and nowhere near to accurate sometimes but It will just give you some idea about what to expect.

I guess its best that I get the monitor first and see if I Have an issue.

I am not sure what FPS I am currently getting. I guess I will have to test it that as well. This is just a hypathetical. I would love the r9 295x2, and at $650 it is hard to pass up. I just don't have the cash right now. I may just wait and save up for the 295x2.
