4k at 30FPS

Hi
Just built a new system with:
Aorus gaming 7 mb
Aorus 1080Ti watercooled 11Gb GPU
i74700k CPU

I have a philips 4k monitor and can only get 4k @ 30fps. I can set it to 1080 @ 60fps. This is quite irritating and I've read a few solutions for this but have not been able to solve it.
Yesterday I bought a new HDMI2 high speed cable (3m long), this made no difference.
Can anyone help.

On page 19 of the user manual it explains under technical specifications that HDMI can only support 4K at 30Hz or 1440p at 60Hz.

In order to achieve 4K at 60Hz the unit MUST be plugged in with a displayport cable.

Absolutely spot on, thank you, I would not have thought that. I have a DP cable to try, I will try that tonight and report back...
