[SOLVED] 4k at 60hz with either of these two ports..?

I seem to be limited at 4k 30hz over my HDMI cable. I tried getting an HDMI 2.0 cable and I am still limited to 30hz so I am guessing my laptop has HDMI 1.4. Anyway, I have two other ports: "USB 3.1 gen 2 Type-C" and "Dual-Mode Mini DisplayPort". Does anyone have any experience on getting 4k 60HZ with either of these ports. My monitor has HDMI and DisplayPort so either of those are options on that side.

what the version of this mini display port?
unless the type-c have alt-mode video out, it is only for data

Is there a way to tell which version of mini display port this is? It is not listed in the user's manual. I have an this laptop: https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/asus-rog-strix-gl503

I would give the dp option a try if you can.
On my GTX750ti, the hdmi connection is limited to 30hz at 4k resolution.
Using displayport the refresh rate is 60hz.

Ok, thank you. I ordered a mini DP cable. Not sure if its better to go from mini DP to DisplayPort or miniDP to HDMI (my monitor has both) or perhaps it doesn't matter.

I think hdmi is the limiter.
There are several levels of hdmi capabilities.
There are also different levels of hdmi cable capabilities. Ultra HD cable for example is needed along with hdmi 2.1 to allow 120hz via hdmi.

I would try straight dp to dp.
