4k but no 10 or 12bpc color on display?

Hi all,

I have a few questions that need answering

1. Samsung KS8000 is finally outputting 4k@60Hz Full RGB 32bit but is only sporting 8bpc (16.7 million colors)? I thought it had 10-12bpc?

2. Just started 4K and to be honest, I see no difference in anything. My GTX 1080 is definitely pumping out the power in Grand Theft Auto 5 all maxed graphics at 4K but compared to 1080p I genuinely see no difference. I know it's working because at 1080p maxed GTA5 consumes 4GB VRAM and with 4K enabled fully it's nearly hitting 7GB VRAM. Also, Windows 10 is still the same desktop resolution (when I upgraded from 720p years ago to 1080p I immediately had more desktop space and everything being a little smaller, but with 4K there is no size differences of any kind).

The two things above lead me to believe something isn't quite right. Everyone made 4K to be the next awesome thing. I remember cranking games from 720p to 1080p and the difference was mind blowing. What is wrong guys?

(note: text in Windows is amazing now though. Games look mostly the same but other text is much smaller as I'd expect. Something is definitely working but also not much has changed.)

If you go down to 30hz it allows upto 12bit at 4k, I think it's a HDMI issue I don't think HDMI 2.0a/b support it at 60hz yet on PC, to be honest that is what I came on here for, I was going to post the query. I'd like to know if it is going to support it in the future? I'm sure I've read one of those HDMI's is capable of it, again I'd like to clarify which one though, I don't know the difference between HDMI a and b...
You should also make sure you've changed your hdmi on your KS8000 under picture, expert settings "HDMI UHD colour" as I think Samsung label it. I'm using the KS9000 so it may be a little different.
Windows has scaling turned on by default. 200% on 4K to make it look like a 1080p size. You can certainly disable that and start squinting to see icons and such.

It is my understanding that nothing supports full 12bit color for 4K yet. I've had my 4K TV for almost two years now. Only reason I got it was because it was only 100$ more then a comparable 1080p screen at the time. Though your TV is the first to support 4:4:4 color at 60hz that I have seen, but not 100% under what conditions. Samsung is terrible at documenting features to be honest.

Yeah I just read online that this tv is 10bpc so why can I not enable it in Nvidia control center?

Make sure your games are actually set to 3840x2160@60hz. The difference between 1080p, and 4k @ 6 feet distance is very obvious to me. 1080p on a 55'' screen should be notably blurrier than 4k.
1. Because it always best to run a panel at native resolution
2. Because its about 4x more pixels than 1080p

Also for 10/12bpc you might have to switch a 4:2:0, or 4:2:2 frame packing method.

For #2, I guess I expected a big visual difference in clarity but I don't see much difference.
For #1, 10-12bpc is selectable at YcbCr 4:2:2 but not RGB

I've done a bit more digging and it's not a HDMI issue. I'll copy and paste the bit of info nvidia gave me
"Unfortunately, this TV model only support 8bit when at 4K@50Hz/60Hz and it does not support 10bit/12bit at RGB 4:4:4 or YCbCr 4:4:4.

It can support 10bit/12bit but only YCbCr 4:2:2 or YCbCr 4:2:0,

For more details, Refer to TV user manual for the support table, page 82 and please click on below link

I went on to enquire if this will effect HDR gaming at 60 fps and they didn't seem to think it would. That's all I was bothered about really.

Thank you! Regarding HDR, no issues so far but leave HDR+ off when in RGB Full 4:4:4, it's awful but HDR+ on PS4 is much more like taking that YCbCr 422 and turning it into RGB Limited, 24p movies are way better

I have the same issue. Just bought a Vizio M55-E0 and I can't select 10 bit color depth at 60hz. Only when I lower it to 30hz. Really don't want to have to play games at 30hz. Feel misled.

As long as you drop down to 4:2:2 @ 10bit you should be fine going up to 60hz I remember running into the same issue when I first got my tv. I don't know of anything that supports full RGB @ 10bit 60hz.
