Hello,

I need a 4K editing system which I will be primarily using for Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects. I have seen suggestions using I7 Processors, but someone told me that for editing 4K using the creative cloud (Premire,AE, Speed Grade), one would need atleast 2 Xeon Processors. Is this true? I see that Newegg has XEON skylake processors for close to $350. Can some one suggest a system configuration based on these processors if these add value? Budget close to $3000

I came across a refurbished Dell Precision T5500 with the following specs :
Nvidia Quadro 4000 (2048 MB)
2x Xeon 6 Core (X5650) 2.66 GHz
12GB RAM

Do you think adding 48GB of ram and a couple of SSDs to this would make it a good 4k editing/rendering system?

Thanks,
Syam

What codec? Im assuming nothing but DNxHD

Since youre a beginner it wont really matter. An i7 and lots of RAM, and you want a dedicated fast scratch disk.

Depending on Project, dont always expect real time playback.

No you dont need dual Xeons. The difference a CPU makes is render Times. The more you spend, the faster youll render projects.

All the best!
